How does norethisterone work?

During a menstrual cycle, the level of progesterone hormones drops which causes the lining of the uterus (the womb) to shed and causes bleeding during the menstrual period. Northesterion is synthetic progesterone and works just like progesterone and when taken three days before the expected period, it prevents menstruation from happening. When northesterion is stopped, bleeding occurs in the following few days.

Who can consider norethisterone?

Most women can take norethisterone to delay their periods but it is not suitable for use in all women. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire that will include questions about your medical history to establish if the period delay tablet is safe for you. Women that have a personal history or significant family history of thrombosis (blood clots), liver problems or certain heart conditions should usually avoid using period delay tablets, as a general rule.   •  intense itchy skin rash.
